Today is the official first day of spring. March 21 2021. We had an amazing day. Even though it was pouring rain and even though it was only the two of us. Celebrations in COVID are different. However, today got rave reviews.

We spent the morning at a local park. It was pouring rain. We bundled up in our rain gear and then also took umbrellas. I have mixed feelings about umbrellas. However, today they saved the day. We saw a wood pecker, possibly a downy wood pecker, an juvenile eagle and a great blue heron. All in a 1 hour span. It was glorious.

This whole year we have not been dressing up, and my LO has been missing that. So today for dinner I suggested we get dressed up. He was very happy. I bought a beautiful dinner of all his favourite things. Yesterday I had bought flowers, roses and a salt candle holder. I added some music to our meal, a table cloth and some serving dishes and we enjoyed a lovely and celebratory meal that I did not spend hours making. I think this will be my new go to. I love cooking, but it is tiring. So for festivals I think we will spend time cooking one token treat and then enjoy the labour of others 🙂

We learned that we could create a festive experience alone, with a little bit of help. 🙂

How about you? Do you have any traditions around spring? How did you welcome spring this year?
